Black-eyed Blackberry

Companies

Research in Motion Ltd unveiled its new Blackberrys last week to a resounding chorus of observers who said 1) pretty cool phones and 2) so what.

RIM’s stock fell sharply shortly after the announcement. Analysts said they were particularly disappointed that the phones won’ be available until March.

I used to love my Blackberry, but Apple’s iPhone has driven the Blackberry to near extinction. I can’t imagine going back. Can you?

Hello Al Lewis,

I just had to write you and tell you that I enjoy reading your Sunday column in our local Sacramento Bee’s Business section each weekend.

And yesterday’s (2-4-13) Sunday piece “Black-Eyed BlackBerry” you wrote about the new Blackberry phone being released (or not really) until March 2013 which like you said more or less is WAY TOO FAR in the ‘future’ to drum up excitement two months after the announcement of them was made earlier last week in January!, both the Z10 & Q10 phones.

I agree, these new ‘smartphones’ will not save this company, as there are way too many phones to choose from from lots of companies.

If Apple’s iPhone 5 is slowing down in production, the “(past)King of the hill of all smartphones”, that tells us something,… that the excitement phase of smartphones is getting more ‘ho-hum’ with any new announcements of the next best thing.

Anyway, I laughed throughout your article as I enjoyed reading it. You always add a flare of humor, but also include real up todate info on what to know concerning (in this case) why Blackberry should be worried ‘about climbing a hill that is made of sand.’
