Just what Wall Street needs: a new batch of sociopaths to replace the ones we have running things now.
“Many people see the current group of college students — sometimes called ‘Generation Me ‘ — as one of the most self-centered, narcissistic, competitive, confident and individualistic in recent history,” said Sara Konrath, a researcher at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research.
Today’s college students are significantly less empathetic than students of decades past, according to her review of 72 studies examining a total of 14,000 American college students between 1979 and 2009.
Today’s students are far less likely to agree with: “I sometimes try to understand my friends better by imagining how things look from their perspective” and “I often have tender, concerned feelings for people less fortunate than me.”
